Well, from previous experience, you knew that it would hatch at any moment. So you sat and waiting. Night fell. Dawn came Night fell. Dawn came Night fell. Dawn came Ok, this was ridiculous. Plus you felt silly sitting here just waiting. You knocked on the egg. No reponse. Well, what were you expecting? That you would communicate with the hatchling using morse code or something. Night fell. Dawn came Night fell. Dawn came At last the egg began to shudder. In a few moments the hatchling had slithered out of the shell and was blinking bleary eyed in the bright sunlight.
You called him Turval. You had after all had a lot of time to spend on thinking up names. He was kind of cute as you watched his push his nose around in the sand, snuffling quietly. Night fell. Dawn came Ok, looked like things were back to normal, if you wanted to call it normal. Turval had grown into a teen.
He sat watching you wake up with a very curious look on his face. ~Where did you come from?~ he asked. You wondered if he didn't remember you from when he hatched, but then recognition crossed his face and he happily pounced on you. ~Mommy!~ Err, not exactly, but you were in no position to protest. Night fell. Dawn came You looked about. Turval was nowhere to be seen. You were a bit disappointed since you wanted to see him as an adult. You called out his name but there was no response. You got up and started to walk. No point staying here. That's when a white and purple blur raced past you.
That had to be Turval, and fully grown too. He hadn't taken any notice of you, obviously intent on catching some other prey. So you shrug and continue on your journey through the desert. You hoped that you would come across an oasis soon. You were thirsty from having sat in the desert for a week with nothing to eat or drink and no shade nor shelter! |
